Nashville Rated 6 out of 15 as the Best Place to Live for Baby Boomers

Nashville is one of the best cities for Baby Boomers due to the affordable housing, numerous healthcare facilities, no state tax, a bustling entertainment scene, wonderful climate and low crime rate.

It’s no wonder people are flocking to Nashville and the Middle Tennessee area. With all this city has to offer, who wouldn’t want to live here. I’m sure I am a little biased, since I have lived here all of my life; but I have visited many other nice cities and none are as friendly or inviting as Nashville.

But there are many other reasons folks are coming such as:

HOUSING…Nashville has one of the most affordable housing markets. We are up to date on all of the new up and coming housing situations from Townhomes, Condos, Multi-Family to 55+. We have some of the most desired 55+ housing complexes in the country.

FUN…there are over 1000 restaurants- everything from very formal dining to a more relaxed atmosphere. Many with live music; and it’s not all country music!

HEALTH…the healthcare industry is the largest industry in Nashville with over 100,000 employees throughout the 250 healthcare companies. We have award winning hospitals and healthcare facilities.

WORSHIP…Nashville is in the middle of the Bible Belt, although many religions are in the area. There are over 700 places of worship.

EDUCATION…With 20 colleges, Nashville and the surrounding area have many opportunities to expand your brain.

PROPERTY TAXES…Nashville and the surrounding areas have some of the lowest property taxes in the nation. This is mainly due to having “budget minded” politicians. I know that sounds like an oxymoron, but in the Nashville area it’s true.

NASHVILLE CONTINUES TO RANK HIGH AS BEST CITY

Those of us who are natives to Nashville have known all of our lives that Nashville is one of the best cities in which to live. Those of you who have made Nashville your new home, did so because you too have realized Nashville is one of the best cities in the world.  As a native of this wonderful city, I take for granted the kindness and hospitality that we offer. In my line of work as a Real Estate Agent, I have folks tell me everyday how wonderful the people in Nashville are, and I take great pride in that.

But nice people are not all we have to offer. Nashville has a very diverse economy and that is why we have been able to stay ahead of other cities.  Of course Country Music is at the top of attractions to Nashville, but we have a building boom unlike most cities. We have wonderful universities such as Vanderbilt and Belmont, that attract students from all over the world.  Our city has always been able to maintain the fiscal budgets and having a more “conservative” attitude has helped in keeping our property taxes lower than most cities our size.

Tips To Keep Your Home Warm This Winter

Here are a few tips to help you keep your home warm during this

unbelievably cold winter:

1.  Install a Programmable Thermostat: 

If you do not currently have a thermostat that is programmable, it is definitely worth the

$40 cost to install one. Setting your thermostat at one temperature and leaving it there is

so much more cost efficient than have your furnace work overtime to warm up your house

during the day.

2.  Clean Furnace Filters at least once a month:

When your filters are dirty, the air has a harder time flowing through therefore causing

the furnace to work harder.

3.  Be sure all storm windows are closed:

I don’t know about you but I love to open my windows on the rare occasion we have a

warm day in the winter. Unfortunately I have noticed that I will close the window at

night, but forget to close the storm window. This allows the cold air to come in.

4.  Use one exterior door as much as possible:

Most of us have one exterior door that we use all of the time. For those that use a couple

of different doors, try using just one that is the farthest away from the main living area

and thermostat controls. Using one door cuts down on the cold air coming in from

different areas of the house.

5.  Keep ceiling fans running on the lowest speed:

Hot air rises, therefore ceiling fans are great in keeping the warm air circulating.

6.  Keep socks and sweaters handy.

I saved the best for last…. My grandmother always said “Socks and sweaters were

created for a reason”. So keep them handy, and if you catch a chill just reach for your

sweater instead of turning up the thermostat.
